APA Format (6th Edition): Journals and Magazines

Journals and Magazines (Print)

Here is the citation information for a journal article:

Lastname, Firstinitial(Publication date). Title of article. Title of Journal Volume(Issue), pages.

  • If a doi number is available, list it after the page numbers.
  • For magazines, list the year then the month and day.

 

 

Examples:

Journal

Bagchi, A(1996). Conflicting nationalisms: The voice of the Subaltern in Mahasweta Devi's Bashai Tudu. Tulsa Studies in Women's Literature 15(1), 41-50.

Magazine

Smith, T. A. (2015, April 9). Common Core in today's schoolsTime, 135, 10-13.

Journals and Magazines (Online Database)

1. Author.

2. Date of publication (in parenthesis)

  • For magazines: In addition to the year of publication, list the month and, for weekly magazines, the day.

3. Article title.

4. Journal or magazine title (in italics). Capitalize all major words.

5. Volume, issue and page numbers.

  • Article in a journal/magazine paginated by volume (continuous page numbering across all issues within a volume): Give the volume number (italicized), followed by the page numbers.
  • Article in a journal/magazine paginated by issue (each issue starts with page number). Include the issue number after the volume number (only
  • italicize the volume number, not the issue number), followed by the page numbers.

6. DOI number (if available). If not available, list the name of the database in which you found the article.

Lastname, Firstinitial (Year) Title of article. Title of Journal, Volume(Issue), pages. DOI number or article URL.
