APA Format (7th Edition): Books

Print Books

Basic Format:

The author's name appears as last name, first initial. The basic form for a book citation is:

Lastname, F. M. (Year of  Publication). Title of book.  PublisherDOI if available

 Author, A. A. (Year of publication). Title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle. Publisher Name. DOI (if available)

Example:

Loschiavo , J. (2021). School nursing: The essential reference.  Springer Publishing Company.

 

 

Book with More than One Author:
If a book has more then one author, list all authors' names in last name, first initial, middle initial format.

Lastname, F. M., Lastname, F. M., & Lastname, F .M.  (Year of  Publication). Title of book. Publisher.

 

Example:

Amano, H. & Becan, S. (2021). Let's make dumplings!: A comic book cookbook. Ten Speed Press.

 

Book with No Author:

List by title of the book first instead of the author's name. Then the publication date and publisher.
Title of book. (Year of Publication). Publisher. 

 

Book with Group Author (Organization, Corporation, etc.):

Treat the publishing group as the author. Format the rest of the citation as seen in the Basic Format example above.

Groupname. (Year of  Publication). Title of book.  PublisherDOI if available

 

An Edition of a Book:

Use the basic citation format for a book and add the number of the edition after the title.

Lastname, F. M. (Year of  Publication). Title of book. (Edition). Publisher.

Electronic Books

1. Author.

2. Date of publication (in parenthesis).

3. Title (in italics). Capitalize only the first letter of the first word of a title and subtitle, the first word after a colon or a dash in the title, and proper nouns.
 4. Publisher.
 5. URL or Permalink of the book.
 
Lastname, F. M.. (Year of Publication). Title. Publisher.  URL or Permalink. 

 

Example:

Bunk, B. D. (2021). From football to soccer: The early history of the beautiful game in the United States. University of Illinois Presshttps://pulaskitech.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?

Parts of a Book

A Chapter in a Book or a Work in an Anthology, Reference, or Collection

Examples of these works may include an essay/short story/poem in an edited collection or a chapter of a book.

The basic format is:

Author Lastname, F.M. (Year of publication). Title of essay or chapter In Editor's Lastname(s), F.M. (Eds.), Title of book (pp. Pages of chapter). Publisher.  DOI if available.

Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year of publication). Title of chapter. In E. E. Editor & F. F. Editor (Eds.), Title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle (pp. pages of chapter). Publisher. DOI (if available)
